Right after World War II, my mom would embark on an adventure, so across the sea she would go. With many others just like her.
To this strange new land, there he was. My dad standing on the dock.
Across the country they would go. I’m not sure what she thought, she never did say.
It may have been too much, it’s such a long long way.
In Spokane they arrived, to be greeted. By Dads family. All eleven brothers and sisters, and mom and dad. Oh what a time she must of had!
Then a wedding there would be soon. And in just nine months. Then there would be me.
Then dad got the word, he was being transferred to England we would go.
How happy she would be. So over the pond we would go to a lovely little village.
It wasn’t long and my brother came along. How happy we all would be!
Now this family of four would get orders once more. Back over the pond to Virginia
It would be. With beautiful beaches and golden sand and jelly fish in the sea.
Happy times there would be, crabs jumping out of pans in the kitchen you see.
Yet again orders came and across the pond we would go. This time to a base called Schulthrope, where we would complete our family and add one more.
She was my 9th birthday present you see. I got to name her, and her name is Penny Jo. Complete our family would be.
California here we come!! I remember it well. Because Hawaii became a state, and everything was Hawaiian . And hula hoops were all the rage.
Here we go again. Across the pond we will go. We almost missed the boat.it was the Cuban crisis you see the President, said you can’t go. But Dad got special permission,
How he did it I do not know. In Suffolk this time. And now I was just a teen, these were some of the best years of my life. The music the British Invasion had started!
It followed back to states where I would start high school, and in year my Mom and Dad Would join me. And after that Dad would retire, the family would lay down roots in Des Moines, Washington, it would be.. So the war bride story has come to an end. But in my heart she will always be.
